Click to see image without the crop. I’ve never been one to follow the fads or attempt to be trendy. The problem with that is work of that nature tends to become dated in just the time period it takes for it to go from concept to being presented to the world in the campaign. We saw an example of that with the HDR craze years back. In no time it was everywhere and people were sick of it as fast as it erupted. I recall seeing campaigns by major designers in magazines that seemed incredible dated just months after the rage started.
That doesn’t mean I don’t pay attention to trends. I do. We need to know the direction things are moving, but that’s a different thing than a fad. You can be current while still shooting work that has a timeless quality to it. That is what I work to achieve with most of what I shoot.
This photo was shot in the old abandoned silver mining town, Silver Plume Colorado. We brought modern fashion into an old west setting and the choice of black and white fit well with the vintage. The high fashion look worked well in the setting, a bit like Robert Conrad in the old TV series the Wild Wild West. Nobody watching the show really questioned the fact that not too many people would have dressed like that back in the day.
